How to Download Twitter/X Videos on Android
· 4 min read
Android makes this easier than iOS: Chrome downloads the MP4 straight to your Downloads folder and your gallery usually picks it up on its own. No app, no permissions, no sign-in.
Want to skip ahead? The Twitter video downloader is free, needs no account and works on phones and computers.
What you need before you start
Only two things: the link to a public post that contains a video, and a browser. Chrome, Samsung Internet, Firefox and Edge all handle the download the same way. You do not need to be logged in to X, and you should not need to grant storage permissions to anything.
Download an X video on Android in four steps
Copy the post URL
Tap the share icon under the video in the X app and choose Copy link. If you are already in a browser, copy the address from the address bar.
Open the downloader
Go to the Twitter video downloader in your browser.
Paste the link and tap Download
Paste into the box and tap Download. The page shows a thumbnail of the video along with each MP4 quality that X published for it.
Choose a quality
Tap one and Chrome starts the download immediately. You will see it in the notification shade and in Chrome's Downloads list.
Where the file ends up
Android saves browser downloads to the shared Download folder. You can open it from the Files or My Files app, or from Chrome's three-dot menu under Downloads.
Most gallery apps — Google Photos, Samsung Gallery — scan that folder automatically, so the clip usually appears alongside your own videos within a few seconds. If it does not show up, the media scanner has simply not run yet. Opening the file once from the Files app, or restarting the phone, forces it.
Google Photos only backs up folders you have told it to. A downloaded clip sitting in Download may appear on the device but not sync to your Google account until you enable backup for that folder in Photos settings.
Picking the right quality on mobile data
Every option lists its real resolution and measured file size, so you can make the choice deliberately rather than guessing. A one-minute clip at 1080p can be several times the size of the same clip at 540p, which matters on a metered connection.
| Label | What it is |
|---|---|
| MP4 · 1080p (HD) | The largest copy X published. Best for keeping or re-editing. |
| MP4 · 720p | Still sharp on a phone screen at roughly half the size. |
| MP4 · 540p / 360p | Small and quick. Fine for reference or sharing in chat. |
If a video only offers one or two options, that is all X encoded for that upload — the list reflects what genuinely exists rather than a fixed menu.
Why not just install a downloader app?
Plenty of Play Store apps do this, and some are fine. Two things are worth weighing before installing one.
- Permissions. A downloader app typically asks for storage access, and many bundle advertising SDKs that collect far more than they need for the job.
- Maintenance. When X changes how it serves media, an app has to be updated and you have to install that update. A web tool is fixed server-side and works on your next visit.
The browser route also works identically on a tablet, a Chromebook, or a phone that is not yours — nothing is installed and nothing is left behind.
Saving Twitter GIFs on Android
A GIF on X is not really a GIF. It is a short silent MP4 that the app loops for you, which is why it downloads as a video file. That is usually what you want, since MP4 plays everywhere and is far smaller than a true animated GIF. If you specifically need a .gif file, see our guide to downloading X GIFs.
If the download does not start
- Check the link contains
/status/— a profile or search URL has no video. - Make sure the post is public. Protected, deleted and age-restricted posts cannot be read.
- Some battery-saver and data-saver modes pause background downloads. Check the notification shade for a paused item.

Frequently asked questions
How do I download a Twitter video on Android?
Copy the post link from the share menu, open the SsnapTik Twitter video downloader in your browser, paste the link, tap Download and choose a quality. The MP4 saves to your Download folder.
Where do downloaded Twitter videos go on Android?
To the shared Download folder, which you can open from Files or My Files, or from Chrome's Downloads list. Most gallery apps pick the file up automatically.
Why doesn't the video show in my gallery?
The media scanner has not indexed it yet. Opening the file once from the Files app or restarting the phone usually makes it appear.
Do I need an app to download X videos on Android?
No. Chrome and other Android browsers download the MP4 directly, so a web page is enough. That also avoids granting storage permissions to a third-party app.
Does this work on Samsung Internet?
Yes. Samsung Internet, Firefox and Edge all handle the download the same way as Chrome.
Can I download Twitter videos on Android without watermarks?
Videos on X are not watermarked the way TikTok videos are, so the file you get is the same one the post serves, unmodified.
