How to Download Twitter/X Videos on PC and Mac
· 4 min read
On a computer this is about as simple as it gets: paste the post URL into a web page and click a quality. It works the same in Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari, on Windows, macOS, Linux and ChromeOS, with nothing installed.
Want to skip ahead? The Twitter video downloader is free, needs no account and works on phones and computers.
The fastest method on any desktop
Copy the post URL from the address bar
Open the post on x.com or twitter.com and copy the whole address. It should look like
https://x.com/username/status/1234567890123456789. You can also right-click the timestamp on a post and choose Copy link address.Open the downloader
Go to the Twitter video downloader in the same browser.
Paste and click Download
The page reads the public post and lists a preview with every MP4 quality available.
Click the quality you want
The MP4 downloads to your browser's usual downloads location.
| System | Location |
|---|---|
| Windows | C:\Users\<your name>\Downloads |
| macOS | ~/Downloads, and the Downloads stack in your Dock |
| Linux | ~/Downloads for most desktop environments |
| ChromeOS | The Downloads folder in the Files app |
In Chrome and Edge you can press Ctrl+J (Cmd+Shift+J on a Mac) to jump straight to the downloads list and open the folder from there.
Why a browser extension is usually the wrong tool
Search for a Twitter downloader and you will find plenty of extensions. They are convenient, but an extension that can read the pages you visit is a large amount of trust for a small convenience, and downloader extensions have a poor track record.
- Most need permission to read and change data on every site you visit, not just x.com.
- Extensions change hands. A well-behaved extension can be sold and updated with tracking or ad injection, and the update installs silently.
- They break whenever the site changes its markup, and you are stuck until the author ships a fix.
A web page that you visit deliberately, use once and close has none of those properties. It cannot see any other tab, and there is nothing installed to go stale or change ownership.
Downloading several videos in a row
There is no bulk mode, and that is deliberate — a tool that fetches dozens of posts automatically is the kind of thing that gets rate-limited at the source and ruins it for everyone. For a handful of clips, the practical approach is to open each post in its own tab, copy each URL, and paste them one at a time.
A post that contains more than one video is handled in a single pass: each video is listed separately with its own qualities, so you can save them all from one paste.
Getting the best quality copy
The list is ordered best-first, and the top entry is tagged HD when it is 720p or larger. Bear in mind that the ceiling is set by the original upload — X does not upscale, so a clip that was uploaded at 480p will never offer a 1080p option no matter which tool you use.
Anything promising a guaranteed 4K download from X is describing something that does not exist. What you can rely on is getting the largest copy that was actually published, unmodified and without re-encoding, which is why the download starts immediately rather than after a conversion wait.
Editing the clip afterwards
Because the file is a standard H.264 MP4, it imports directly into essentially any editor — Premiere, Resolve, Final Cut, CapCut, Shotcut, iMovie — with no conversion step. The same goes for PowerPoint, Keynote and Google Slides.

Frequently asked questions
How do I download a Twitter video on my computer?
Copy the post URL from your browser's address bar, paste it into the SsnapTik Twitter video downloader, click Download and pick a quality. The MP4 saves to your Downloads folder.
Do I need to install software to download X videos on PC?
No. The tool runs in the browser, so there is nothing to install on Windows, macOS, Linux or ChromeOS, and no extension to add.
Is a Twitter downloader Chrome extension safe?
Many request permission to read and change data on every site you visit, and extensions can be sold and updated silently. A web page you open deliberately cannot see your other tabs, which is a much smaller amount of trust for the same result.
Can I download Twitter videos in 4K?
No, and neither can any other tool. X does not publish 4K copies, and it does not upscale. The best available quality is whatever the largest published copy is — usually 1080p or 720p.
Can I download multiple videos from one post?
Yes. If a post contains more than one video, each is listed separately with its own quality options, so you can save them all from a single paste.
What format are the downloaded files?
Standard H.264 MP4, exactly as X serves it. No conversion happens, so the file imports directly into any common video editor.
